While there is still a lot of uncertainty about 2021 one thing we know for sure is that Russell Island will continue to need its maintenance and repairs, as it does every year. Looking at the months to come we realize that we won’t be able to host the RI Winter Fling this year. As this is one of the Island’s important fundraisers, last year raking in $4,468 and averaging $3,000 in the last 10 years, we are certainly going to proceed with the traditional raffle with a top prize of $1,000 on February 20, 2021 and are encouraging all of our Islanders and friends to participate and step up their ticket purchase. Raffle tickets will be mailed out to each member, please consider buying one ticket more than you usually do. If you want additional tickets, please contact Phil Sloan at pwsloan56@gmail.com.
In addition, some folks have expressed interest in finding a way to gather for this event virtually. We’ve had a few ideas but would need a volunteer to host and organize a “Zoom Fling” if the community is interested. There could be a live raffle drawing, a special Fling cocktail recipe, or even a contest for best dressed/costume on screen. It seems like there are still a lot of ways to have a fun party and see everyone before we get to April.
We ask that anyone who might have the desire to undertake this please reach out to the RIPOA board to get started. If we don’t have a volunteer by the end of the year 12/31/2020 we will just proceed with a raffle.
